Wildlife Sanctuaries in Goa: The Nature lover’s Heaven


If you think that Goa is for beach lovers only, then you’re mistaken. The state has a lot for nature lovers too. There are three wildlife sanctuaries where one can explore an untainted beauty of nature along with rich wildlife legacy.

The Bondala Wildlife Sanctuary: spread in a lush green area of 80 square kms, this lovely animal park is about 10kms northeast of Usgao Village in North Goa. The area features appealing greenery and some captivating vistas of nature. Tourist cottages are built to give the vacationers a relaxing experience in lap of nature. Visitors can spot a range of wild animals including elephants, black-faced langur, wild boars, jackals and various different species of deer in their natural habitat.
Bhagwan Mahivir Sanctuary: Another popular wildlife park in Goa is Bhagwan Mahavir Sanctuary. Combined with the Mollem National park, this natural reserve acquires an area of 240 square kilometers in the Western Ghats of Sanguem Taluk, Goa. Inside the park is a range of flora & fauna, which never fails to becharm its visitors, in close proximity of this sanctuary is the Dudhsagar Fall, one of the most iconic natural sites of Goa state. Among the commonly spotted animals here are black panthers, barking deer, leopards, langurs, gaur, mouse deer, samber and wild boar.
Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary: this lovely protected area is named after the famous ornithologist Salim Ali, and is very close to the capital city Panaji. This place is literally a heaven for bird and nature lovers. You can enjoy here the captivating beauty of nature along with pleasing activity of birding.
